Never giving up

I remember how much grandma liked to walk. She always used to walk up Hengistbury Head, she would go on walks with her friend Iris and the dogs, she would love walking in El Escorial when she came to Madrid... the list goes on.

When she got older, she started having a lot more difficulty walking and her knees would hurt. However, I will always remember how she used to say to herself: come on legs! Irene, stand up straight, come on! and she would power through and walk a bit more. Even after I moved to Washington DC in 2017, she would often say that she was doing her exercises, so that her legs would get well enough for her to come and see me.

Despite the mobility restrictions in her last years, she always had a positive and determined attitude which I always found incredibly inspiring.
