We knew and lived close to dear Irene in Wimborne for 35 years and were, together, part of the Canford Church family.  Our strong and enduring friendship has been one of the greatest gifts God has given us and we are so thankful that His love bound us together throughout the years.  During those years it was also special for us to be able to hear about, and meet, members of her family, all of whom she adored.  Irene was full of life and loved being with people.  We remember with great fondness her 70th birthday party hosted in Wimborne by her family, and latterly, the continuing fun and laughter at her 90th birthday party hosted by friends at Canford Church.

The name 'Irene' means 'peace' and family and friends experienced that peace in her home.  She was kind, gracious, caring, encouraging and wise.  Alongside these beautiful qualities, she displayed great strength when standing against wrong and injustice.  (This strength she so often referred to as 'the Dison spirit').

Irene had a strong and unshakeable faith in God and so many who met her sensed His love flowing through her and out to those she met.  She was a woman of prayer and together, throughout the years, we witnessed many answers to prayer - both small and great. Twenty years ago when we took up a call to full-time Christian ministry, Irene was the personal prayer partner who faithfully stood alongside us.  Her prayers, wisdom, love and support have been a priceless blessing to us, and to our family, and she knew how much we all loved and valued her.  When she moved to Warnham we missed the closeness of her smile and presence but were thrilled to visit her in her lovely new home.  Even more precious was to be able to sit with her, pray and hold her hand during her final few days here on earth.
